I don’t know about you, but I live for Summer! Even though I live in the South where Summer usually brings high humidity, very warm temperatures, and mosquitos, it is absolutely my favorite time of year. I love the longer days, clear blue skies, and all of Summer’s activities– gardening, swimming, cookouts. All these activities make it hard to make time for art, but I find inspiration all around me. I’m constantly snapping photos of beautiful flowers or color palettes that I love, making quick sketches of scenery, or just jotting down a note of an item that sparks an idea for new work.
The one activity that I look forward to all year long is our family’s annual trip to the beach. It’s a tradition that we’ve kept for over 30 years. We started when our daughter was just an infant. We pack up the whole gang, young and old, drive a few hundred miles and spend the week together. Nowadays, we have grandchildren, and it is so much fun seeing the little ones discover the magic of time near the sea. I’m so thankful that we are able to have this time together as a family, and that it is something that everyone enjoys!
